Gospel koan 70.6
The power to transform
Koan 70.6
Thus difference: 'the condition of bearing apart' cannot manifest power in division but only in conference: the 'condition of bearing together'.
Summary exposition
This koan establishes that difference, in a state of pure division or opposition, is powerless; power emerges exclusively when differences are convened into a relational whole ('conference'). For example, hydrogen and oxygen atoms possess distinct properties, but their isolated differences are inert; only when combined into the conference of $\text{H}_2\text{O}$ do they manifest the power to form a solvent and sustain life. The fundamental consequence is that ontological power is a relational property, not an individual possession. Reality’s potency is generated at the nexus of connection, rendering isolation a state of potential without actualization and the conference of difference the fundamental engine of being.
